Roses are an extremely popular theme among bullet journalers. There are about a dozen different ways you can draw roses. I’m showing you the top 5 ways on how to draw roses.

So if you are using them as doodles or intricate designs for your bullet journal there are a few different ways you can put roses into your bullet journal. I’m also sharing some of my favorite rose themes from some of the best of the best in bullet journal artistry.

While some of the ways you can draw roses are similar there is something to be said about each drawing. Just like in nature no two roses are the same you will never be able to create the same rose twice.

As with any drawings or designs you attempt in your bullet journal, make sure you are first lightly outlining the drawing in pencil. This way you can fix mistakes as you go. Finally, always fill your roses in with your lighter choice of colors first. This keeps your markers from staining with darker colors you might use.

Before we get started here is a list of my recommended supplies.

There are two ways that I normally draw my roses. For the sake of seeing the lines I used a thicker marker to outline. I highly recommend using a fine liner to do the outlines of each rose petal. The fine liner will give you a crisp look.

I use a compass to create the initial circle and then freehand the petals around that circle. As you can see in this image you will always have different looking petals. This is a good thing because each flower should look different. As previously mentioned make sure you use a fine liner to outline instead of a large marker like I did. This will give each petal a distinct look.

For this rose I simply create a bunch of ovals after my initial circle. The ovals get smaller and smaller as you get towards the center of the rose. You can keep all oval lines in or erase them like I did. If you are going to be using watercolors I recommend leaving them in. If not it may look best if you erase any extra lines.

Tips on Drawing RosesRemember, no two roses are exactly the same in nature, no two drawings should be exactly the same either. Your roses, even when using a guide, will have their own unique flair and it should be that way. Art is not something that can look exactly the same every single time it’s drawn.Draw in pencil first and use your lighter color options first. It’s always easier to go darker than it is to try to make something dark be lighter. Finally, outline in a fine liner so that you get a crisp finish on each petal.Recommended ProductsWhat type of rose are you looking to add to your bullet journal spreads?
